Barbara Allan

Barbara AllanI am deputy dean in the Business School at the University of Hull, and I have worked in further and higher education for more than 20 years. I have taught all ages (from 7 to 80 +) and different subjects in both colleges and universities.

I am now director of the research Centre for Innovations in Business and Management Education, and this helps me to support student learning in many different ways. My daughter graduated this year and her experiences of school, university and gaining employment have enabled me to understand some of the challenges young people face today.

Within the Business School, we support many activities to help young people develop their understanding of the business world and consider advancing their careers through further study. I lead this aspect of our work and enjoy engaging with primary and secondary school pupils and their teachers.  I introduced the part time business management undergraduate degree in Hull and this provides a route for individuals who wish to gain a degree while working or volunteering.

Finally, I am also a trustee and deputy chairperson for the Hull and East Yorkshire Community Foundation, and this role helps me to contribute to the wider community particularly with respect to corporate social responsibility.
