The Business Studies Department is a popular choice with students at Andrew Marvell College - We offer BTEC courses at different levels in Business, Travel & Tourism and Workskills.

About the BTEC Programme

A BTEC programme is an exciting way to study. It gives you the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding that you will need in the world of work. BTECs are very different from GCSEs; a BTEC puts you in charge of your own learning. At Level 2, we offer the BTEC Extended Certificate (equivalent to 2 GCSEs) and a BTEC Diploma ( equivalent to 4 GCSE's).

The department has grown in recent years to reflect the growing importance of Business Studies in education, and the recognition of the skills that it brings which are sought after by employers. Our department is made up of four Business and Travel Specialists.

Tours and Outings

Each year the department takes pupils on a variety of trips to enhance the learning that takes place in the classroom and to put real life business situations into practice.

Previous trips have included:

London - visiting tourist attractions and experiencing a wide range of customer service
York - York Dungeons and the different types of Business Ownership
Alton Towers - To experience the theme park itself and to learn from a lecture on customer service or marketing at the resort
Pizza Hut - to look at the customer service training programme offered to all employees
The Deep - To look at Marketing of the Deep as an attraction of Yorkshire
Cadbury World - Looking at production and .....
The Trafford Centre - looking at a service provider in the tretiary sector
