School Council
Students are encouraged to get involved in the decision making process in the school through the College Council. Each tutor group elects 2 representatives to be their voice on the Council.
The College Council meets every half term to discuss a variety of issues.
Members of the council are encouraged to take on other responsibilities around the school and may become members of committees such as:
- Academic Group
- Environmental Group
- Culture & Community Group
- Social Enterprise Group
- Sport Group
Student Voice & Participation at AMC
For student voice to be effective:
- All students in the college should feel their opinions are valuable, even if the decision reached is not the one they wanted.
- All staff should support the structure that enables students to participate in the college culture, community and curriculum

How is it Organised?
WEEK 1 – The CLASS COUNCIL meets to discuss issues.
WEEK 2 – The YEAR COUNCIL meets.
WEEK 3 – Meeting to construct agenda for COLLEGE COUNCIL.
WEEK 4 – COLLEGE COUNCIL meeting.
Representing view of each tutor group - Week 1
Two tutor group reps are elected. Each tutor group has the opportunity to discuss issues. This is organised by the form tutor and held during tutor time. Notes should be kept recording briefly what has been discussed. This is the responsibility of the tutor reps. The tutor group reps join the YEAR COUNCIL.
Space on a notice board should be provided for Year and College Council Information.
Representing the views of each year group - Week 2
This group is overseen by a member of the PHASE team and chaired by a student. (Chair of the Year Council). Tutor group reps (2 from each tutor group) meet to pool the ideas discussed in CLASS COUNCIL and select ideas to go forward on to the COLLEGE COUNCIL agenda. Possible strategies or solutions may be discussed and any matters that can be dealt with at Year level can be sorted out. This forum may from time to time meet without a member of staff present. Tutor reps feedback to the next CLASS COUNCIL.
Each Year Council will elect a Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary who will be the representatives on the COLLEGE COUNCIL.
Meeting to construct agenda - Week 3
Chairs of YEAR COUNCILS and the Chair of the COLLEGE COUNCIL meet with Assistant Headteacher to construct the agenda for the full COLLEGE COUNCIL meeting. Opportunity to discuss possible responses to the agenda items in order that the full council meeting can address all relevant issues. Items tabled by the HEAD TEACHER can also be discussed at this point.
The College Council - Week 4
Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary from each year council make up the COLLEGE COUNCIL. This group is overseen by an Assistant Head teacher and Governor. Representatives should be involved in discussions and feedback to the next YEAR COUNCIL. Official minutes will be taken and distributed to all tutor reps, and PHASE teams. Dates for these meeting are published in advance and take place during a floating timetabled lesson in the Conference Room.
Feedback
Members of the YEAR and COLLEGE councils will be expected to feedback discussion held to the students they represent. This will normally take place during YEAR and CLASS COUNCIL meetings. Staff overseeing these discussions will feedback to relevant meetings (PHASE MEETINGS and LEADERSHIP MEETINGS). Occasionally members of the COLLEGE COUNCIL may be invited to one of these STAFF meetings to report on STUDENT views personally.
