Careers Advice
We feel it is very important that you get the support you need to make informed decisions about you future. Careers information, advice and guidance (IAG) is an essential part of the support offered by the college.
Information
The provision of accurate, up to date and objective information about learning and career opportunities and progression routes – information can be paper based or electronic.
Advice
The provision of one to one and/or group activities that help pupils to understand information and apply it to their own situation.
Guidance
Usually one to one sessions which are impartial and allow pupils to understand their needs, challenge pre conceived ideas, resolve conflicts and develop new perspectives.
Careers IAG
Careers IAG is an integral part of our curriculum (Mii Life), from year 7 through to year 11, and we work in partnership with the local authority to ensure that we have professionally trained staff on site who are able to deal with any specific queries regarding careers, jobs, college options and apprenticeships.
The college library has extensive up-to-date information on job families, specific careers, local colleges, training providers and universities. The college also has access to careers based software and internet programmes designed to support our pupils in making informed decisions about their future.
Mrs Bould and Miss Sheavyn (both located in the library) can answer initial queries, direct pupils to the careers IAG resources and where necessary refer to a careers adviser. Form tutors also have access to online resources.
