A Caring Environment
“Enjoy and Learn, Care and Share, Together, Today.”
At Andrew Marvell College we aim to:
Enjoy and celebrate opportunities for achievement and lifelong learning;
Care for and value ourselves, each other and the world around us;
Share mutual respect in creating and belonging to a positive and secure college.
We recognise that:
Together we will recognise that with rights come responsibilities to co-operate and do our best; and
Today’s effort creates tomorrow’s opportunity.
The values of highest standards of teaching, learning, behaviour and pastoral care are central to the ethos of Andrew Marvell College. We are working to produce citizens of tomorrow, equipped with creative and technological skills, to live and work within a changing global community.
We welcome all agencies connected with the College to work in partnership, creating a climate where our investment in people helps us in developing a risk-taking culture to promote innovative and confident learners. The principles of inclusion and equal opportunities underpin all of these values.
'For Parents' relating to “A Caring Environment and Transition
At Andrew Marvell College we believe in fulfilling the BASICS of care for each of our pupils.
- Belonging – to feel a part of the school
- Aspiration – especially important to develop their ambitions and hopes
- Safety – to learn you must feel secure
- Identity – recognition as individuals – every child matters
- Challenge – to make progress even beyond their own comfort zone
- Success – to be satisfied that they are improving and to celebrate that
In order to fulfil this pupils are placed in tutor groups at Andrew Marvell, with 2 adults who know them well. It is the role of the tutor and associate tutor to get to know your child, to achieve the “BASICS” by supporting and promoting their achievements, establish expectations, and by building relationships and an environment in which all the above can take place.
The tutor groups are led by a Phase Manager and Phase Assistant who coordinate the activities designed to provide opportunities for supporting your child during their career at Andrew Marvell. The Phase team including tutors have an overview of their progress and ensures any learning needs or personal issues are quickly addressed. They promote contact with home by various means – parents evenings, visits, letters, phone calls, meetings and by being available to speak to parents. In this way, there is someone that parents can contact and meet a member of staff who knows their child well.
Support
There are a variety of sources of support within school and who work collaboratively with school to provide information, advice and guidance. The Phase Team are the key communicators working with these to ensure your child receives appropriate support at times when they are making key decisions or need information – eg Option Choices, Transition, College Courses, Health advice, etc. Our school has just been awarded the IAG Gold Standard (Information Advice and Guidance) by Hull City Council, in recognition of the services we provide for our pupils.
By building up good home school relationships, we can work cooperatively to achieve the best outcomes for your children who you entrust to our care. We want the best for all of our pupils, and together we can make this happen.
