Year 8 Rugby Team
On Tuesday the 1st May 2012, as part of the Year 8 East Hull Rugby Rally Andrew Marvell College attended Haworth Rugby Park and played games against Malet Lambert and St Mary’s school.
We played St Mary’s first in a very close game this was due to the opposition having some very strong runners, however with outstanding performances by Jamie Jenkyns, Harrison Chapman Dusher and Daniel Spence we broke them down winning 20 – 8.
Next we faced Malet Lambert, which is always a close game as they come straight out of the blocks and are strong in the first 10minutes. This was a worry to Andrew Marvell as the games were only 25minutes long and we needed to have a good start. Unfortunately we went in at half time down 6 – 4. In the second half we stepped up to the challenge with an amazing defensive performance lead by Lloyd Gurnell, this gave confidence to the rest of the team and enabled Daniel Spence to score, running the ball 80m to touch down under the sticks. Dan led the charge with another two tries with Alex Ollett and Harrison Chapman-Dusher adding to the score line. Lyndon Hodgson was as solid as ever and secured some very important kicks to take the team to a 24 – 6 victory.
Oliver Burdin had an excellent debut and was a huge credit tohimself and a welcome bonus for the team.
Andrew Marvell will now face the best West Hull School with the date and venue to be confirmed.
Good luck for the final!
