School Closure - Wednesday 30th November 2011

Our Ref KLI/SW

21st November 2011

Dear Parent/Carer(s)

Re:  School Closure - Wednesday 30th November 2011

I am writing to advise you that I have been informed that the NUT (National Union of Teachers), NASUWT, Unison and ATL (Association of Teachers and Lecturers) will be calling upon all their members to take one day’s strike action on Wednesday 30th November 2011.  This is in opposition to the Government’s proposed changes to the Local Government Pension Schemes.

I am unable to provide a normal service and so the college will be closed to all students on this day.

This decision has been taken as a result of undertaking a Risk Assessment which has highlighted a number of issues that could arise due to the absence of a number of teaching and support staff across the college.  In light of these issues and in consultation with the Chair of Governors it has been agreed that my recommendation to close the school for all students on Wednesday 30th November 2011 is the most sensible course of action.

This decision has not been taken lightly and the educational implications for all students have been considered.  I realise that this may cause some inconvenience, however, my most important consideration is my duty of care to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students and I hope therefore you can understand my action.

AMBEC has registered all students with a study website called Sam Learning or alternatively they can use the BBC revision website.  The Sam Learning website can be accessed as follows:

Visit the website: www.samlearning.com
Centre:         HU9AM
Pupil ID:      date of birth + initials (e.g. 010190JS - for John Smith born 1st January 1990)
Password:    date of birth + initials (when used for the 1st time same as Pupil ID)

The college will be open as normal on Thursday 1st December.  I apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause but emphasise once more that the continued health, safety and secure learning environment for all students remain our principal consideration.  Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely

Mr K J Lister
