Drama GCSE Pathways 1 & 2

Drama is a popular and successful option where many pupils have achieved their highest grades.

The course contains the following activities:

  • A final performance worth 40% of your overall mark
  • 2 full day drama days
  • 2 pieces of written coursework and a theatre review

Drama students are required to visit the theatre as a member of a school party to watch a professional performance.

Drama is a lively and energetic subject but is also highly rewarding.

Various topics and themes are covered through-out the course and the main examinations take place as soon as you return into year 11.

You will have 3 drama lessons a week where you will use the explorative strategies (freeze-frame, thought-track, role play etc) to develop your drama and performance skills.

You will also be introduced to a range of new strategies to further enhance your skills.

If you enjoy acting, working in a group and individually, planning and performing then this is a good subject choice for you!

Dance GCSE Pathway 1

The GCSE dance course is a very practical subject and will involve 4 practical assessments and a short 1 hour examination.

It will involve the study of other dance practitioners and you will study a variety of dance genre.

The 4 practical assessments consist of:

  • Set dance - A 1 minute contemporary dance taught by the teacher
  • Group dance - A dance performed in a group
  • Solo choreography - A 1 minute solo based on the works of another choreographer
  • Choreography - A dance developed and devised based on a theme/issue/idea chosen by you

There is also a 1 hour written exam based around dance theory.

If you enjoy or have a specific interest in dance this course will be suited to you.

It is an enjoyable subject for anyone interested in dance!

Each lesson will begin with a warm-up and most lessons will have a practical element.

Performing Arts Acting BTEC Pathways 1

Candidates work for up to 6 lessons per week in Drama.

It will help candidates to use their creative imagination to learn about the Expressive Arts process and how the art forms connect and enhance each other by exploring and analysing ideas through practical work.

There are 6 aspects to the assessment of this course:

  • 1 core unit
  • 2 other units
  • Assessments are made each term.

In the coursework, candidates work in a group context and an individual context.

If you enjoy drama and performing then this is a good option choice for you.

The course is fundamentally practical and does have a written portfolio to accompany each unit.

This course would be useful to candidates wanting to progress to further study, for example in a Performing Arts qualification.

The course is available as a BTEC extended certificate qualification (equivalent to 2 GCSE’s)
